The title hints at a mix between the natural world and the artificial delights we often crave.
The most favorite spot for this Healthy Candy is the kitchen. It invites to question the boundaries between wholesome food and indulgent temptation, cleverly balancing nourishment with visual sweetness.
Or: it’s just a picture that makes you smile or feel good.
Visual sweetness, grounded in nature.

Healthy Candy features peeled broad beans, their natural forms transformed by vivid, glossy coatings of color. I took this photo while cooking in my home in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. When I looked closely at the beans, I suddenly realized how beautiful and intriguing they are.
I stripped the photo and enhanced it with digital oil paint. By painting the natural, smooth, plump beans with a glossy, candy-like sheen, a contrast emerges between the organic shapes of the beans and their artificial, almost confectionery appearance.
Although my central themes—identity and inclusion—are serious, I often approach them with humor or a wink. This piece may seem unrelated to my regular subject matter, but it is. Beyond the theme of ‘shifting perspectives,’ my eye is drawn to the damaged broad bean in the middle. For me, this is a reflection of living with multiple sclerosis. For you, it may symbolize something else. Everybody is damaged in some way, yet we are all still part of the world around us—surrounded and supported by others.
