I made ‘Behind the Curtains’ (digital paint – NO AI) as a gentle reminder that behind the surface there is always a world that goes beyond boxes, labels and smooth (digital) expressions.
The structured shapes in the foreground symbolize the facade of boxes in which we are sometimes placed, with the influence of the seemingly pixelated digital world.
But the shapes also seem floating and slightly distorted – imperfect, layered and alive. The sharp, defined edges of the shapes in the foreground are in contrast with and the soft golden folds of the curtains, behind which lies a beautiful world of all that is invisible or unspoken.
These were my thoughts when making this work, but I now know that others also see (completely) different things in it. Or are ‘simply’ captivated by the colors and composition. Everything is ok ;
